Midnight Tuning Lands October 6: Unholy Blightfall Halved, Devourer DH and Enhancement Buffed
The next retail tuning pass is dated. On October 2, Blizzard posted "Incoming Class Tuning - October 6" on the US forums, and every change in it goes live with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6 in that region. The headline is a direct response to the Unholy Death Knight burst problem that has been building since the late-September hotfixes — but the pass also touches six other specs and reworks a chunk of the PvP talent pool.

Unholy: the Blightfall correction, round three
The developer note is candid about the cause:
"A recent bug fix resulted in Blightfall dealing significantly more damage than we expected. Alongside this tuning change, we're also making sure the damage is represented accurately when an Augmentation Evoker is present in the group."
The fix itself: Blightfall now deals 100% of the remaining plague damage, down from 200%. Blizzard also resolves an issue where Augmentation Evoker Reattribution damage from plague erupt effects was being credited to the Death Knight.
This is the third swing at the same ability in under three weeks. Our September hotfix roundup covered the original decay bug fix that quietly made Blightfall stronger — community estimates put the net effect at roughly +12% single-target — and now the direct nerf claws back the burst by cutting the eruption multiplier in half. Between the multiplier change and the Evoker attribution fix, Unholy's effective output should drop noticeably more than the headline number suggests, since a slice of its logged damage was never really its own.
The buffs: Devourer DH leads, five more specs follow
Everything below is PvE-only unless noted.
| Spec | Change |
|---|---|
| Demon Hunter (Devourer) | Consume/Devour, Reap/Cull, Eradicate and Collapsing Star primary-target damage +8%; The Hunt initial damage and Voidblade damage +10% |
| Monk (Brewmaster) | Quick Sip purifies 8% of current Stagger per 3 seconds gained (was 5%); Pretense of Instability dodge bonus lasts 8 seconds after drinking (was 5) |
| Monk (Mistweaver) | Invigorating Mists and Enveloping Mist healing +15% (Enveloping Mist not in PvP) |
| Rogue (Subtlety, Trickster) | Fazed damage amplification 5% → 7%; Unseen Blade +15%; Coup de Grace +10% |
| Shaman (Enhancement) | All ability and auto-attack damage +4%; Lava Lash +35% |
The developer notes frame each bucket clearly. Devourer's buffs exist because "many of Devourer's single target damage sources" were below expectations — six separate lines bumped rather than one big multiplier. Brewmaster is a durability patch aimed at dungeon deaths: death rates were "higher than we'd like." Trickster is explicitly a catch-up project for Subtlety, meant to shrink the gap with Deathstalker. Enhancement gets the broadest throughput increase of the pass, with Lava Lash deliberately pushed to carry a bigger share of the rotation.
The PvP pass: tank talents reworked, Death Knight kit touched everywhere
The PvP section is the largest part of the post and opens with a structural change to the Focused Assault family — the tank-spec PvP talents (Death Knight's Murderous Intent, Demon Hunter's Tormentor, Druid's Alpha Challenge, Monk's Admonishment, Paladin's Inquisition, Warrior's Oppressor) all now share a stronger template:
- Stacks to 6 (was 5)
- Duration 10 seconds (was 6)
- Cooldown 15 seconds (was 20)
- Range 15 yards (was 10)
Beyond that, the Death Knight took the most individual PvP talent changes: Dark Simulacrum cooldown 20 → 15 seconds; Death Chain now hits 4 targets (was 3) with initial damage up 500%; Price of Progress grants full slow immunity below 100% movement speed (was 90%) while its health sacrifice ticks every 1.5 seconds instead of 1; and Frost's Cold Embrace now boosts Remorseless Winter damage by 450% (was 400%). Demon Hunter gets Cover of Darkness adding 4 seconds to Darkness (was 2) and a +50% Illidan's Grasp damage increase for both Havoc and Vengeance. Balance Druid's Moon and Stars grows its radius by 60% and now shows as an important nameplate effect, with Tireless Pursuit extended to 6 seconds (was 3).
Context
This pass lands two days after the October 1 retail hotfix wave — which, as we noted in our beta build coverage, contained almost nothing for Forever — and one day before the 12.1.5 content update notes went live ahead of the October 13 patch. Unholy players should also note the second developer note: the Augmentation attribution fix is a logging correction, not a buff, so parses from before October 6 are not comparable across the change.
::note All numbers above are from Blizzard's October 2 forum post as archived by Blue Tracker and transcribed in full by Check-PvP; the list reproduced here covers every change visible in those sources at publication time. Tuning goes live with the October 6 weekly maintenance in the US region, and regional restarts may apply the changes on different calendar dates. Verified October 4, 2026. ::
