Subtlety Gets Its 12.1.5 Buff Rolled Back: Blizzard's Next Midnight Tuning Pass Lands October 27

Blizzard's newest Midnight class tuning post reverses most of Subtlety's 12.1.5 compensation buff, buffs Feral Druid and Fire Mage in PvE while nerfing Fire in PvP, and hands out a long list of arena-oriented changes — live with the October 27 weekly reset in the Americas.

Blizzard published its next Midnight tuning pass on October 23, and it goes live with the weekly reset on October 27 in the Americas region — the same day Early Name Reservation opens for WoW: Forever, a coincidence that means one maintenance window touches both sides of the game. The post covers six specs in PvE and eleven in PvP, and its headline is an explicit rollback: the 12.1.5 patch overshot on Subtlety, and Blizzard is taking most of it back.

The Subtlety rollback is the story

The developers' note is unusually direct about admitting a mistake in scale: "The buff Subtlety received as compensation alongside changes in the 12.1.5 patch overshot expectations, so we're rolling back a significant portion of that buff." Concretely, all Subtlety ability damage drops 8%, and the Trickster hero tree takes an extra cut — Fazed now increases damage by 5% instead of 7% — because the patch changes "benefitted Trickster more than Deathstalker."

That is the second swing at Subtlety in five weeks: the September 22 pass buffed Trickster as one of its hero-talent-parity targets, and 12.1.5 then added compensation tuning that apparently compounded into too much. Forum reaction to the nerf is already hostile, with players arguing the spec was barely above water before the compensation buffs arrived.

The PvE half: dungeon-healing fixes and two flat damage buffs

  • Feral Druid — all damage +5% (PvE only).
  • Restoration Druid — a package explicitly aimed at Mythic+ healing, where the notes say resto druids are "behind other healers" against burst damage while performing well in raids: Verdancy +60%, Regrowth +10%, and Improved Swiftmend raised from 30% to 40%.
  • Marksmanship Hunter — an AoE-damage package: Trick Shots ricochet scaling up from 75% to 85%, plus Explosive Shot and Volley +10% each.
  • Fire Mage — all damage +5% in PvE. Note the direction: the same spec is being nerfed in PvP (below).
  • Affliction Warlock — Unstable Affliction +20%; Destruction gets Rain of Fire +20%. Neither affects PvP.

The PvP half: eleven specs moved

The arena section is larger than the PvE one and mostly consists of targeted hero-tree adjustments:

  • Unholy Death Knight — San'layn's Vampiric Strike −20% in PvP; the notes concede the earlier San'layn changes "did increase its viability" but Vampiric Strike landed harder than intended.
  • Fire Mage — all damage −5% in PvP, with the note that the spec "has continued to overperform." Frost Mage gets the counterweight: Frostfire's Isothermic Core Meteor and Duality Pyroblast both +20%, trying to give Frost a second burst profile distinct from Spellslinger.
  • Marksmanship Hunter — a large PvP package: Kill Shot +40%, Dark Ranger's Black Arrow +40%, and Deathblow's Aimed Shot proc chance raised to 25%.
  • Assassination Rogue — the mirror of Subtlety's nerf: Deathstalker's Mark and Hunt Them Down +20% each, Darkest Night's Eviscerate amp raised from 8% to 15%.
  • Healers — Preservation's Chronowarden gets two big buffs (Chronal Dynamo 50%→80%, Reverberations 40%→80%); Mistweaver's Conduit of the Celestials gets Celestial Conduit +35% and Strength of the Black Ox +25%; Holy Paladin gets +5% healing and a mana cut on Holy Light through Divine Favor (30%→50%); Holy Priest's Archon tree receives four targeted buffs; Restoration Shaman's Healing Stream and Stormstream Totems +20%.
  • Devourer Demon Hunter — Collapsing Star +20% in PvP, a change forum commenters immediately questioned given the ability's existing damage ceiling.

One visible omission is drawing comment in the thread: Warriors are absent from both lists, and several replies zero in on exactly that.

The regional date matters

The blue post says the changes arrive "with scheduled weekly maintenance (October 27 in this region)" — the Americas. Weekly resets differ by region, so EU and Asian realms see the changes on their own maintenance days; the Chinese community translation reports October 29 for the CN servers, consistent with Thursday resets there. Numbers quoted here are from the US forum post; regional hotfix pages occasionally adjust tuning between announcement and deployment.

::note Verified on October 25, 2026 against the official US forum posts ("Tuning Changes" and "Class Tuning Incoming - October 27", both October 23, 2026), an MMO-Champion blue-tracker mirror timestamped October 23 19:30 UTC, and a Chinese translation for the CN reset date. All percentages are Blizzard's published values for the October 27 Americas maintenance; actual live values may shift via hotfixes, and EU/APAC deployment dates follow regional resets that were not announced in the same post. ::
