WoW 1.12.1 (Build 5875) Client Checklist
“Vanilla client” is not a precise enough compatibility label. For realms based on the final original Vanilla patch, the expected client is normally 1.12.1, build 5875. Confirm the realm's detail page before downloading or changing anything.
Prefer a source you can verify
RealmList does not redistribute proprietary game clients. Start with software you are entitled to use and follow the realm owner's official setup documentation. Avoid shortened links, password-protected archives from unknown uploaders and launchers that demand administrator access without explaining why.
If a community supplies a patched client, check whether it publishes checksums, a changelog and a clear explanation of modified files. Scan downloads with current security software before running them.
Confirm the version
The login screen normally displays the version and build number in a lower corner. For a conventional 1.12.1 realm, look for:
Version 1.12.1 (5875)
VMaNGOS documents build 5875 as the final 1.12.1 client and also supports selected earlier patch builds. A realm using custom patches may require something different, so the server's own compatibility statement takes priority.
Keep the client self-contained
Legacy clients are easiest to troubleshoot when kept in their own writable directory. Before the first launch:
- Extract all files rather than launching from inside an archive.
- Keep a clean backup before adding patches, addons or custom launchers.
- Confirm that
Wow.exe,Data,InterfaceandWTFbelong to the same installation. - Set only the realm's documented
realmlist.wtfvalue.
Treat accounts as realm-specific
Community realms operate separately from Blizzard. Create a unique username and password for each realm, and never reuse your Battle.net password. Register only through the website linked from the realm's verified RealmList page.
