Forever's October 15 Build Rebuilds Classes and Racials Days Before the Duel Tournament
Blizzard took the WoW: Forever beta down at 1:15 p.m. PDT on October 15 and posted the development notes just after midnight UTC on October 16 — and by the scale of player-facing change, it is the biggest class update since the October 8 build opened Dalaran. The timing is pointed: the build landed two days before the Forever Open duel tournament, and five days before the beta closes on October 21.

Elemental Mastery returns, redesigned
The reversal getting the most attention is Elemental Mastery. Blizzard had previously planned to remove the Shaman talent entirely; it now returns as the redesigned 31-point capstone — activating it reduces Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst cast time by 0.5 seconds for 15 seconds and removes Chain Lightning's cooldown, on a 3-minute cooldown. Lava Burst drops to the 21-point position, so existing Elemental build plans written around the removal are obsolete.
Mages: Arcane Blast rebuilt, Ice Lance nerfed
Mages took the largest single-class changes. Arcane Blast is fully redesigned: a 1.5-second cast that grants stacking spell damage (15% of Intellect, up to four stacks) at a rising mana cost, with base damage and coefficient both cut roughly 40%. A new level-24 spell, Frost Blast, officially exists to provide "the functionality formerly granted by Rank 1 Frostbolt despite the penalization of 'down-ranking'" — the same design tension we covered in the downranking nerf, now solved with a dedicated spell. And the PvP-relevant one: Ice Lance's bonus damage against frozen targets dropped from 300% to 200%, the change Frost players had been asking for since the level 30 Ice Lance debate.
Racials: weapon specializations are gone
Humans, Orcs and Dwarves lose their weapon specializations, replaced by weapon-agnostic critical-strike bonuses. The overhaul extends across the roster — Tauren, Undead, Gnomes and others all see reworked or replaced traits — which meaningfully changes the race-and-class-combination math for both the tournament field and launch-day character planning.
The Classic raid comp puzzle gets simpler
Buffs that once forced Shamans and Warriors into specific party compositions are now raid-wide: Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura, Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack, and the Grace of Air, Strength of Earth, Windfury and Flametongue totems. Windfury and Flametongue remain mutually exclusive with each other; Grace of Air no longer conflicts with either. Wands and Auto Shot also now require standing still for 0.5 seconds before firing, "matching early versions of World of Warcraft," and Hunters gain an optional setting that switches automatically between melee and ranged attacks by distance.
Smaller items round out the build: a new tutorial, the previously announced restriction on Horde access to Dalaran, Salvation reworked into a removable blessing with a matching "Revoke" ability, and a batch of bug fixes across Rogue, Shaman and Warrior.
What it means this week
This is very likely the last major tuning pass before the beta ends on October 21 and launch on November 4. For the roughly 4,000 registered duelists, the Ice Lance cut and racial changes landed after most preparation builds were locked in — a live test of how the tournament's rules handle mid-event balance shifts. For everyone else, saved talent plans written before October 15 need a re-check against current tooltips before name reservations open on October 27.
