Kith'ix Went Into Heroic and Mythic Testing: What the One-Boss Raid Actually Drops

Midnight''s 12.1.5 raid hit the PTR on September 16 — two fights stapled together, and a loot table whose Mythic drops arrive already maxed. Here is the confirmed structure and what is still only datamined.

A raid with one boss reads like a small patch feature until you look at the loot table. On September 16, The Unbinding of Kith'ix went into Heroic and Mythic testing on the 12.1.5 PTR — Heroic at 13:30 PDT, Mythic an hour later — and while the encounter is deliberately compact, the gear it carries is not. If you read the 12.1.5 patch reveal briefing when the PTR opened, this is the part that comes next: what testers actually faced, and what the boss hands out.

The fight is two exams stapled together

The encounter structure, as described in the Dungeon Journal and covered by outlets watching the PTR, is a control check followed by a race.

Phase one has Kith'ix summoning aqir through Voidswarm portals while hammering the raid with Void magic. Lady Liadrin is an active participant rather than a story prop: when Kith'ix reaches 100 energy, Suffocating Darkness begins closing in, and Liadrin holds it back with her Light before clearing it and stunning him with Divine Radiance. The mechanical bite is in the adds — any aqir still alive when the darkness lands become significantly more dangerous, so the phase rewards add control before it rewards throughput.

The transition lands at 25% health. Kith'ix absorbs his remaining minions and starts Eightfold Eclipse. Liadrin answers with Last Light, restoring the raid and granting Luminous Grace, which doubles damage and healing. From there it is a straight damage race: kill him before the final eclipse extinguishes her protection and wipes the raid. The transition also stuns the raid first, which is the classic shape — survive the reset, then commit cooldowns.

Testing conditions were deliberately flat: characters were scaled to effective level 90 and to an item level appropriate to the encounter, with a teleport NPC in Silvermoon City, Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Blizzard's own schedule note warns that raid testing is "very fluid" and can be moved or cancelled outright, so September 16 counts as the plan that was published, not a guarantee that a clean Mythic pull happened.

The loot table, with the caveat attached

DifficultyItem levelUpgrade track
Raid Finder285Veteran 3/6
Normal298Champion 3/6
Heroic311Hero 3/6
Mythic344Myth, listed as maxed (9/6)

Two things matter here. First, Mythic Kith'ix drops gear already at the top of its track — that is the entire reason a single boss is worth a raid slot in a mid-season patch. Second, every number above is datamined or PTR-observed, not published by Blizzard, which has not released Kith'ix item levels in patch notes. The "9/6" step count in particular reads oddly, since the Myth track has historically capped at 6 steps; treat the step notation as an artefact of PTR parsing and the practical claim — Mythic drops arrive maxed — as the part multiple outlets agree on.

Four Cantrip pieces that sit on tier slots

The unusual part of the loot table is a set of Cantrip armour pieces, one per armour type, each occupying a tier-set slot:

  • Voidweaver's Vestments — cloth chest
  • Leggings of Palpable Terror — leather legs
  • Aberrant Commander's Gauntlets — mail hands
  • Corroded Hulk's Skullcap — plate head

These can be run through the Catalyst while keeping their Cantrip effect, so you combine the special bonus with your class set rather than choosing between them. Their effects also gain additional benefits when paired with Venomcursed gear from Ula'tek, which makes Kith'ix a direct continuation of The Venomous Abyss gearing loop rather than a sidegrade. The boss also carries two weapons, a Cantrip ring, three role trinkets covering damage, healing and tanking, plus a housing decor item and a hearthstone toy.

Why a bridge patch gets loot this strong

12.1.5 is a mid-season update, not a season reset. Mythic+ Season 2 keeps running through it, Keystone Master progress carries, and the patch's new currency — Ascendant Venomstones — only works on gear you have already fully upgraded at Season 2 Hero, Mythic or top-quality Tidal Crafted. A raid that drops Season 2-relevant pieces at the very top of the Season 2 tracks is what keeps that loop worth running; if the new boss dropped permanent replacements, the Venomstone system would have nothing to lift. The Venomstone guide covers where those stones come from and which slot to spend them on.

What is still unknown

  • No live date for 12.1.5. Historically an x.x.5 patch spends four to six weeks on the PTR, which points at a late October to November window. Blizzard has not announced one, and any site quoting a hard date is guessing.
  • Exact item levels and the loot table. Datamined, not published. Mythic tuning after a test session commonly changes both.
  • Whether the test produced usable data. Blizzard cancels sessions when bugs or hardware make the data meaningless, and no encounter feedback thread has been summarised publicly since the test.
Accurate as of September 17, 2026. The encounter structure, difficulty ladder and loot composition above come from Blizzard's PTR test schedule and from datamined PTR data reported by third-party outlets; the item levels shown are not official and may change before the patch ships. No release date for patch 12.1.5 has been announced, and Mythic testing outcomes are not yet public. Re-verify against patch notes when they appear.
