Four Days Before Launch, Forever Rewrites Paladin, Druid and Mage Talents — With No Way to Test Any of It

A client diff dated October 31 shows Forever rebuilding all three Paladin trees, deleting Berserk from Feral, giving Wild Growth a three-second cast, restoring Ice Lance to 300% on an eight-second cooldown, and moving Shadow Word: Death backlash to 30% of max health. There is no blue post, no patch note and no test window. Here is the full change list, what reverses an earlier October decision, and where our two sources disagree.

World of Warcraft: Forever opens in two days, and on October 31 the game client changed underneath it. A client diff posted to NGA that morning, timestamped 08:10 Beijing time, lists a full rebuild of all three Paladin talent trees, the removal of Berserk from Feral, a three-second cast time on Wild Growth, and a substantial Mage reshuffle. ForeverDB published its own checked version the same day, comparing a community video against the installed client build 1.60.1.70707.

Neither is an official announcement. Blizzard has published no blue post, no patch note and no developer commentary for any of this, and the beta closed on October 23. Name reservation — which is running on the live servers until November 3 — is the only thing players currently have access to. That is the whole story: a large set of class changes nobody can test.

Paladin: all three trees move

The Paladin list is long enough that we have split it by kind of change.

Spells that leave the trainer

Blessing of Light, Greater Blessing of Light, Blessing of Salvation, Greater Blessing of Salvation and Absolution are no longer taught. Voice of Truth comes out of the talent tree and becomes a level-20 trainer spell.

New talents

  • Shieldsworn (row 7 capstone): Holy Strike's cooldown drops by 4 seconds; it now swings with your shield and can trigger Holy Shield and Shield Specialization without spending their charges or cooldowns; grants 6 seconds of spell block.
  • Oath of Light (row 4): designate an ally for 5 minutes — your Holy Light, Flash of Light and Holy Shock heal them for more. The exact value is set server-side and was not in the data file.
  • Boundless Light (row 5, 2 ranks): up to 30% extra Holy Shock critical chance against allies without your Oath.
  • Stoicism (row 5, 2 ranks): up to 20% shorter stuns and charms.
  • Turn Evil (row 5, 2 ranks): −1s cast, −10s cooldown on Turn Undead, and it now works on demons.

Reworked and removed

Swift Judgement is redesigned: it now releases your current seal's judgement effect without consuming the seal, on its own cooldown. Twist of Light is renamed Unsealed Wrath — your melee swings store the active seal for 15 seconds, up to three stacks, and attacking under a different seal spends them at that seal's normal proc chance. Removed outright: One-Handed Weapon Specialization, Improved Seal of Wrath and Instrument of Law, whose effects were folded into Champion of the Light and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization. ForeverDB also notes Templar's Bulwark moving earlier in the tree and becoming dispellable by magic.

Roughly a dozen further talents only changed position — Illumination, Holy Shield, Divine Strength, Toughness, Templar's Bulwark, Anticipation, Repentance and others. If you have a build saved from the October 15 beta build, assume the rows no longer line up.

Druid: Berserk is gone, Wild Growth is not instant

This is the part players reacted to hardest, and it is worth being precise about because ForeverDB corrected its own first version: Berserk is removed from the Feral tree, and it is not simply renamed into Primal Bite. Those are two separate changes.

  • Primal Bite moves from row 4 to row 7 under Leader of the Pack. That pushes it to level 40 (was 25), drops it to 3 ranks, and raises its bonus damage to 42 / 62 / 77 from 26 / 38 / 59.
  • Shifting Power also moves to row 7 and its cooldown is halved to 8 seconds (was 16). Improved Shifting Power is deleted.
  • Furor and Heart of the Wild swap trees: Furor into Feral row 1, Heart of the Wild into Restoration row 1.
  • Wild Growth now has a 3-second cast. Naturalist can shave it to 2.5 seconds.
  • Genesis doubles to 2–10% periodic damage and healing. Naturalist doubles to 2–10% damage and additionally cuts Wild Growth's cast time.
  • Moonkin Form and Leader of the Pack both now grant 3% critical chance to all damage types — Moonkin loses its spell-only restriction and Leader of the Pack gains spell crit.
  • Ferocious Bite gains a rank 1 learnable at level 24, eight levels earlier than before.
  • Lacerate becomes a row-4 talent under Savage Fury with a new rank 1.
  • New: Predatory Discipline (Ferocious Bite keeps its bonus damage without spending the extra Energy) and Bloom (Rejuvenation or Regrowth heals for 100% of your Spirit when it expires, 50% if dispelled). Gift of the Earthmother is removed to make room for Bloom.

The Moonkin/Leader of the Pack change has a consequence the raw numbers hide. Feral and Balance used to bring two different raid buffs; now both grant the same 3% crit to everything, which one Chinese analysis argues removes a raid slot rather than adding one. That reading is the author's inference from the aura change, not a Blizzard statement.

Mage: a reversal, with a cooldown attached

Forever's October 15 beta build cut Ice Lance's frozen-target bonus from 300% to 200%. This build puts it back to 300% at every rank — and gives ranks 2 through 6 the eight-second cooldown that only rank 1 had.

The rest of the Mage list:

  • Ice Barrier: +15% Frost damage for 1 minute (was 3%), plus a further 5% while the shield holds.
  • Winter's Chill: each stack adds 20% to your next Cone of Cold (was 5%).
  • Arcane Reach: also extends Ice Lance range by 10 or 20%.
  • Arcane Resilience: 3 ranks, armour equal to up to 75% of Intellect (was 2 ranks, 50%).
  • Arcane Blast: +12% of Intellect as spell damage per stack (was 15%), but the mana-cost penalty drops from 175% to 100% and the buff lasts 18 seconds (was 15).
  • Critical Mass: 6% crit at rank 3 (was 10% at rank 5). Improved Fireball is renamed Accelerant and also shortens Arcane Wrath's cast. Elemental Precision is renamed Precision and now affects hit chance for all spells.

Everyone else

  • Priest: Cure Disease and Abolish Disease can now be cast in Shadowform. Shadow Word: Death backlash rises to 30% of maximum health, from 10%. Binding Heal leaves the tree and becomes a level-25 trainer spell; a new talent Holy Binding takes its slot and makes Flash Heal on another player also heal you for 50% of the amount.
  • Warlock: Improved Drains now increases mana drained by Drain Mana (7–20%) instead of buffing Wrack.
  • Warrior: Revenge gains attack-power scaling, 25% at every rank.
  • Hunter: Pathfinding moves from row 2 to row 3, Improved Revive Pet shifts one column. Both are pure position changes.

Where our sources disagree

Original editorial illustration by RealmList, generated for this article. This is artwork, not game footage or official promotional material.

We are not going to smooth these over.

Ice Lance's cooldown. NGA's client diff and ForeverDB both say 8 seconds. The Chinese simulation analysis at 163.com says 6 seconds. Two client-level readings against one secondhand summary: we have used 8 and are flagging the dispute.

Frost Blast. The Daily Game News reports on November 1 that Mages "lose the Frost Blast spell entirely." Neither the NGA client diff nor ForeverDB's class rundown mentions Frost Blast at all. We could not corroborate the removal and are treating it as unverified.

Live or not. ForeverDB cites a Wowhead roundup describing these as changes applied to live Forever servers but not confirmed in development notes. We could not open that Wowhead page — it returns a CloudFront 403 to us, as Wowhead has done on every attempt this month — so we are reporting its characterisation second-hand. Forever is not open to players yet; name reservation is the only live surface, so what "live" means here is not something we can confirm.

Berserk. ForeverDB explicitly corrected its first version of the article, which had presented Berserk as renamed into Primal Bite. It is removed. If you read the earlier claim elsewhere, it is wrong.

What the developers said three days earlier

At a media roundtable on October 29, associate game director Chris Gierach told Gamemeca that feedback "kept rolling in right up until last weekend," driving ongoing adjustments to class and racial traits, that Shamans and Druids had already received improvements, and that positive changes for Paladins and Rogues were still being prepared. A Paladin rework arriving on October 31 is consistent with that. Neither the roundtable nor any blue post itemises these specific numbers.

What you can actually do with this

Nothing, before November 4. Beta access ended October 23, nothing carries over, and Blizzard has announced no further test window. The practical advice is to re-check your planned build after you log in rather than trusting a calculator, a guide or a screenshot taken before October 31 — rank counts, prerequisites and row positions all moved, and several talents were deleted or renamed.

For the clock and the first-login sequence, see our launch time and first-login guide. For the raid tier these builds are aimed at, see Forever's first raid tier.

Verified on November 2, 2026. There is no Blizzard blue post, patch note or developer statement behind any change in this article. Every figure comes from client data read by third parties: a diff posted to NGA on October 31, 2026 at 08:10 Beijing time (October 30 in the Americas), and ForeverDB's October 31 comparison of a SignsOfKelani community video against installed Forever client build 1.60.1.70707 and its hotfix cache. Those two agree on essentially every number we list, but they are two readings of the same client, not two independent measurements, and client data does not confirm server-side behaviour, threat generation, uptime or whether any of it survives to launch. We could not open the Wowhead hotfix roundup ForeverDB cites (CloudFront 403), so its claim that these were applied to live servers but are "not confirmed in development notes" is reported second-hand. The 163.com simulation tiers and its +4.5% Feral / +7.1% Balance figures are that author's own two-minute, ten-thousand-iteration single-target sim at level 60 in pre-raid best-in-slot, not Blizzard data, and its six-second Ice Lance cooldown contradicts the eight seconds in both client diffs. The Daily Game News claim that Frost Blast was removed from the spellbook appears in no client diff we read and is unverified. The Gierach and Mills quotations are from Gamemeca's account of an October 29 media roundtable; the roundtable confirms the team was still tuning classes and racials and had Paladin changes coming, but does not confirm any specific number here. Forever launches November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST; the beta closed October 23 and no further public test window has been announced.
