Midnight Patch 12.2 "Eclipse": Everything Revealed at BlizzCon 2026
While the WoW: Forever reveal dominated the BlizzCon 2026 headlines, the Midnight What's Next panel quietly outlined the rest of the Worldsoul Saga's second act. Here is what was confirmed for Patch 12.2 "Eclipse", the final major content update for Midnight.
The Worldcore: an eight-boss raid to close the Xal'atath arc
Eclipse sends players deep beneath Azeroth's surface, where Xal'atath makes her final push toward the Worldsoul. The new zone, The Mantle Vault, is described as part azerite crystal, part titan complex, and introduces a new allied people called the Thraegar. It leads into The Worldcore, an eight-boss raid whose final boss is Xal'atath herself.
The raid is also the centerpiece of the saga's first legendary weapon: Midnight's Edge, a caster dagger obtained through a longer quest process. Panel materials stress that defeating the raid is "only one of the many steps" — it is not a guaranteed drop from the final boss.
New content at a glance
- Lair: The Gearhold, featuring a boss named Noctinaxx.
- Dungeon: Thraegar's Stand, a three-boss instance joining the Mythic+ rotation in Season 3.
- Faction: the Deepskar Empire, populated by kobolds, troggs, drogbars and niffens.
- Campaign: The Promise of Tomorrow.
- No release date yet: Blizzard has not dated Eclipse; Season 3 begins shortly after it ships, and the standalone Talebound mode gets an early PTR preview in October.
Class changes and the end of transmog restrictions
Eclipse opens the paladin class to three races that have never had access to it: the Forsaken, Darkspear trolls and night elves — a long-running community request. Patch 12.2.5 then removes armor-type restrictions from transmogrification entirely, letting a mage display plate and vice versa.
Season 3 Mythic+ rotation
The announced dungeon pool includes Thraegar's Stand (new) alongside returning favorites such as The Underrot, Iron Docks, Sanguine Depths, The Stonecore, Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr, Magisters' Terrace and Maisara Cavern. Two competitive changes stand out: rating is now tracked per specialization rather than across all specs, and a separate reward tier is added for the top 5% of players. Delve updates include a new hunt difficulty called "Agony".
After Midnight: The Last Titan and Wrath Remix
The Last Titan, the expansion that concludes the Worldsoul Saga, was teased with a cinematic and is due in 2027, with more details expected early next year. Blizzard also announced Wrath of the Lich King Remix for summer 2027 — the next event in the Remix line after Mists of Pandaria and Legion, letting players speed through Northrend one more time.
